Backup and restore
Updated 03 Oct 2026A Castreon backup is a complete copy of the configuration: channels, DVB adapters, profiles, users and settings. It is made from the panel while the server is running, without stopping anything.
Backup
- Open Settings → Backup & Restore.
- Click Download backup.
Keep the file somewhere safe: it contains the panel accounts and keys. We recommend a backup after every important change and a periodic one (for example weekly).
The backup contains the configuration, not the video streams and not the license. The license is bound to the server and managed from your castreon.net account.
Restore
Use restore when you reinstall a server or want to copy the configuration to a new server.
- Open Settings → Backup & Restore.
- Under Restore from a backup, choose the file and click Restore.
- Confirm.
Restoring replaces ALL current configuration (channels, adapters, profiles, users, settings), and the server restarts. The previous database is automatically kept as .bak next to the new one, so you can go back if needed.
Moving to a new server
- On the old server: Download backup.
- In your castreon.net account: move the license to the new server — see Moving the license to another server.
- Install Castreon on the new server with the command you receive.
- On the new server: Restore the backup.
- Check DVB adapters — if the DVB cards are different, choose the device of each adapter again.
