Common problems and solutions
Updated 03 Oct 2026The first stop for any problem: the channel page → the Log tab (channel events and the latest processing lines) and the Dashboard page → Needs attention.
The panel does not open in the browser
- Check the service:
sudo systemctl status castreon— it must be active (running). - Port 33400/TCP must be open in the server firewall and at your server provider.
- Use
http://, nothttps://(unless you have a reverse proxy in front).
I forgot the administrator password
Another administrator can generate a new password for you under Users → Generate a new password. If you are the only administrator, open a ticket.
The channel keeps restarting
- Open Log on the channel page and read the last message.
- Check that the source works (for example open it in VLC from another computer).
- If the source is DVB, check in DVB adapters that the mux is live and the service is flowing.
- If the problem appeared after changing the profile, temporarily try passthrough (no profile) — if it works that way, the problem is in the profile (for example a codec the graphics card does not support).
Stripes in the picture on motion
The source is interlaced (1080i, common on DVB). Turn on Deinterlace in the transcoding profile.
Audio volume differs between channels
Turn on Loudness normalization (EBU R128) in the transcoding profile.
Subtitles do not show on HLS
A copied DVB subtitle cannot go on HLS. Choose burned into the image under Subtitles, or use an HTTP-TS / UDP / SRT output — see Audio tracks, languages and subtitles.
The channel is “falling behind”
The server or the graphics card can no longer keep up. Move profiles to the graphics card, reduce the number of qualities or the resolution, or stop some channels. Dashboard → Capacity shows which resource is at the limit.
Continuity errors on DVB
- Only in buffer full / min → the server is loaded (CPU or disk), not the signal.
- In CC errors / min → weak or disturbed signal: check the cable, connectors and splitters.
The player does not start the stream (403)
The player address is not in Allowed addresses (global or the channel's). Check Settings → Recently rejected and click Allow if it is one of your addresses. If you set a Token for players, the address must contain ?token=….
The license shows as Trial or expired
- The server must reach the internet over HTTPS (port 443) for the license check.
- Check in your castreon.net account, under Billing, that the subscription is active.
- If you moved the license to another server, the old server stops within about 6 hours — this is normal.
