The dashboard and alerts
Updated 03 Oct 2026The Dashboard page is where you see at a glance whether everything works — and, if not, what to do first.
What the Dashboard shows
- The summary at the top — “Everything is working normally” or how many channels are not delivering and how many are working with problems. Here you also see how many channels auto-recovery restarted by itself in the last hour.
- Active channels, Availability (delivered minutes out of the total channel-minutes, over 24 hours), Connected clients (with the daily peak), Total output, Restarts · last hour (automatic and manual).
- Remaining capacity — how much more fits on the server: CPU, memory and, on NVIDIA cards, encoder, decoder and GPU memory. The panel estimates how many more channels of the same kind fit.
- Needs attention — the list of problems, sorted by severity (CRITICAL, WARNING, INFO), with a direct link to the channel log or to the DVB mux.
- DVB sources — signal quality and errors on each mux.
- Events — who, what and why (starts, stops, switches to backup).
- Last 30 min — for each channel, one bar per minute: green = delivered, yellow = partial, red = down.
If the server reaches its limit (memory almost full or swap in use), a warning bar appears at the top.
Channel states
- Running — running and delivering.
- Reconnecting — the source dropped; Castreon retries or switches to a backup.
- Waiting for source — the DVB program is missing or not broadcasting; the channel starts by itself when it returns.
- Stopped — stopped manually or idle (On demand channels without viewers).
Alerts
An alert does not stop the channel: it means “it works, but something is not right”. The channel keeps delivering and keeps its statistics.
| Alert | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| falling behind | the channel processes slower than real time (below 0.95× for 30 seconds) | the server or graphics card is at the limit — move channels to the graphics card, reduce qualities or resolution |
| frozen picture | the source keeps sending the same image, with no motion | check the source; if it stays like that, Castreon restarts the channel |
| output stalled | the process is running, but the output no longer produces new data | Castreon restarts the channel by itself; if it repeats, check the Log |
| repeated restarts | the channel restarted too many times in a short interval | open Log on the channel page — usually the source is down or the profile does not fit |
| service missing | the DVB program used by the channel is no longer in the mux | the operator moved or stopped it — rescan the adapter and check the service |
| duplicate program | two channels take the same DVB program | usually a configuration mistake — check the service selected on each |
| high memory | the channel process uses unusually much memory | watch the channel; if it keeps growing, restart it and open a ticket |
| output failed | a push output (SRT, RTMP, RIST) is no longer sending | check the destination; Castreon reconnects automatically |
| RIST losing packets | the RIST link loses more packets than it can recover | increase Buffer / latency or check the network |
| RIST no reply | the RIST output is sending, but the receiver does not reply | check the address, port and password at the receiver |
| HDR downgraded to SDR | the source is HDR, but the profile produces SDR | normal if the profile does not keep HDR; otherwise adjust the profile |
For alerts on your phone or by email, use monitoring with Prometheus and Grafana — see Metrics and Grafana.
Audit
Audit (under Administration) shows every change made from the panel or through the API: who, what, when, with the values before and after. Useful when “something changed” and you do not know who did it.
