Moving the license to another server

Updated 03 Oct 2026

A Castreon license runs on one server. When you change servers (new hardware, another provider, a reinstall), you move the license directly from your castreon.net account.

Before you start

  • Two-factor authentication must be enabled in your castreon.net account (Profile & security). Moving requires the code from your authenticator app — a protection against someone else moving your license.
  • A license can be moved at most once every 30 days.
  • Make a backup of the configuration on the old server — see Backup and restore.

Steps

  1. In your castreon.net account, open Licenses.
  2. Next to the license, click Move to another server.
  3. Enter the 6-digit code from your authenticator app and confirm with Move license.
  4. The license appears with the status Awaiting installation. Click Install and copy the new command.
  5. Run the command on the new server — see Installation and activation.
  6. On the new server, restore the backup in Settings → Backup & Restore.

What happens to the old server

The old server stops at its next license check, within about 6 hours at most. This gives you time to move your viewers to the new server without interruption. After the move, the old server can no longer use the license.

History

Every move appears under Activity on the Licenses page, with the date and the name of the released server.
