Installation and activation

Updated 03 Oct 2026

Installing Castreon and activating the license take a single command, which you copy from your castreon.net account. It usually takes less than a minute.

Before you start

  • A server that meets the requirements.
  • An active license in your castreon.net account (after payment, it appears under Licenses with the status Awaiting installation).

1. Copy the install command

  1. Sign in to your castreon.net account and open Licenses.
  2. Next to the license with the status Awaiting installation, click Install.
  3. Copy the command shown. It looks like this:
curl -fsSL 'https://…/install/…' | sudo bash

The command is personal and single-use: it contains a code that binds the license to the first server it runs on. Below the command you can see until when it is valid. Do not publish it or send it to anyone.

2. Run the command on the server

Connect to the server as root (or as a user with sudo) and paste the command. The installer:

  • downloads the latest Castreon version and checks the package integrity;
  • installs Castreon in /opt/castreon and starts it as a system service (castreon), which also starts automatically after a server reboot;
  • activates the license and binds it to this server.

At the end you see the panel address and the administrator account:

Castreon instalat/actualizat.
  Machine ID: 3f9c…
  Panou: http://203.0.113.10:33400
  Cont initial:
    Utilizator: admin
    Parola: <generata>
    (schimba parola la prima autentificare)
  Licență: activă (license.key prezent).

(Panou = panel, Cont initial = initial account, Utilizator = user, Parola = password, Licență: activă = license active.)

Write down the password — it is shown only once. You will change it at the first sign-in.

If instead of “Licență: activă” you see a message that activation failed and the server starts in Trial, check that the server has internet access and open a ticket — we will help you activate the license without reinstalling.

3. Open the panel port

If the server has a firewall, allow access to port 33400/TCP. On Ubuntu with ufw:

sudo ufw allow 33400/tcp

4. Check your castreon.net account

After the first license check (usually within a few minutes), the license appears under Licenses with the status Active, together with the server name.

Checking the service

sudo systemctl status castreon

The status must be active (running). The service log can be viewed with:

sudo journalctl -u castreon -n 100 --no-pager

If something goes wrong

  • The command has expired or was already used — open a ticket from your castreon.net account and you will receive a new command.
  • The installation stops with a download error — check that the server has internet access over HTTPS (port 443).
  • The panel does not open in the browser — check that port 33400 is open in the firewall and at your server provider.
