Monitoring wall
Updated 14 Oct 2026The wall shows every channel on one screen, the way a control room sees it: each channel's picture, its audio level (left / right) and its status, with the same rules as the Dashboard. Put it on a large monitor or a TV so the operator sees at a glance which channel has a problem — without opening channels one by one.
Available from Castreon 1.6.0, in the Enterprise edition. In the other plans, the Wall page explains what it does and how to get it.
Where to find it
Operations → Wall. The default wall, All channels, has every channel on the server. At the top you choose:
- Grid — Auto (by number of channels) or 2×2 … 6×6;
- Picture refresh — every 2, 5 or 10 seconds;
- Full screen — for the control-room monitor (Esc leaves it).
The grid and interval you pick apply only to your browser. Pictures and audio are measured only while someone has the wall open, at low priority, so the server is not loaded.
What each tile shows
- Border by status: green = running, yellow = attention (backup source, waiting for a broadcast, starting), red = error, grey = stopped.
- Badges in the corner: black picture, frozen picture, no audio, no signal, backup source, stopped.
- Audio bars left / right, the bitrate and the number of viewers.
Clicking a tile opens the channel: live video, source and input, outputs, viewers, audio and the latest events, with a link to the channel page.
Problems and acknowledging them
The Problems list on the right shows the errors, unseen ones first. Seen acknowledges a problem (with your name and the time, recorded in Audit): the tile stops blinking but stays red until the problem is solved. A new problem on the same channel appears as unseen again.
The sound alarm (bell button) sounds on a new error and every 30 seconds while unacknowledged errors exist. Browsers allow sound only after a click on the page — press the button once after opening the wall.
Saved walls
New wall (operators and administrators) creates a named wall shared by the whole team:
- by groups — the channels of the chosen groups; a channel added to the group later appears by itself;
- hand-picked — only the ticked channels, in the order you choose (drag or use the arrows).
Each wall has its own default grid and interval.
Display links (a TV without a password)
A TV or monitor in the control room can show a wall without signing in: Display links (administrators) → New link:
- choose the wall and a name (e.g. “Control room monitor”);
- optionally allowed IPs (the TV's address or the control-room network) and an expiry;
- optionally the alarm switched on by default on that screen.
The link is shown only once — copy it then. Castreon keeps only a fingerprint of it, as with a password. New link on an existing link replaces it (the old one stops working), Revoke stops it immediately. The screen sees only pictures, audio and status — not stream addresses and not the rest of the panel.
Questions
Does the wall load the server? Lightly: for each channel the last HLS segment already written is read (nothing is pulled from the source again), once per interval, only while the wall is open. With hundreds of channels, choose 10 seconds.
Does a channel without HLS appear? Yes — with its status; its picture then comes from the channel's usual thumbnail.
On a phone? The wall works on phones too (the grid adapts), but it is designed for large screens.
